It has been a year since we started sharing our volunteer opportunities through NYC Service, Fundavenyc is currently part of the NYC Advisory Council of this institution. We had the pleasure of a visit from our partners at NYC Service. Laura Rog, Service Director of NYC Service, has expressed at our events:
“The energy was magnetic with Fundavenyc, we are always looking for organizations that are doing real work that impacts real people in their neighborhoods and communities.”
She said that our work is amazing because the people we serve then become volunteers: “They bring people (immigrants) in and help them get services and then help them become resources for other people…it really makes a difference…. This is for us, one of the best examples of volunteerism and people helping other people.” Laura also said that the immigrants identify with our volunteers and that our volunteers are an inspiration to them.
We are very proud to have our work recognized in this way. As an organization founded by Venezuelan asylum seekers and immigrants, we have quickly become a multicultural organization where Colombians, Ecuadorians and Dominicans have become integrated and activated in a common goal: to accelerate the transition of the immigrant community into becoming thriving residents of New York City.
Our volunteers are the heart of Fundavenyc!
“In talking to the volunteers the immigrants have the hope of overcoming their processes and that is a really critical part of the work they are doing here (at Fundavenyc), everything they do really makes a difference…. This is, for us, one of the best examples of volunteerism and people helping people.”
